Hello, my name is Elke Sanders. I teach yoga and meditation in my own company, which is called Gewoon Zen (Simply Zen). Because for me, yoga is all about simplicity: taking time for yourself, to turn inwards and create silence within, to take care of yourself and your body. You don’t have to be a monk or an acrobat to do this. And you don’t need anything expect for your time, attention and presence. This is something you’ll notice in my teachings as well: no nonsense, just you and your body, just yoga.

I first got into yoga when I was studying Sociology in 2010. It started as a way to stay fit and to strengthen my spine, but it didn’t take long before I started feeling positive effects way beyond that. Especially when I started to work full time as a social worker for refugees yoga became my sanctuary to unwind and settle down. Ever since then it became a way of life.

This way of life follows the Eight limbs of Yoga (Patanjali), also known as Raja Yoga or classic yoga. This tradition sees the yoga postures (asanas) as just one of eight guidelines for a meaningful live. Besides the postures, it also has attention for some moral principles and ideals, the breathing, detachment, concentration, meditation and consciousness. By practicing this on a daily basis, I succeeded to make my life less complicated. That’s how it feels anyway: I feel more at peace and I experience more space in my head and in my life to enjoy the thing that make me happy. It’s this experience that I want to share with my students.
